Fair labour mobility

Description
As underlined in the mission letter to Executive Vice-President Roxana Mînzatu, further action is needed to facilitate labour mobility, while ensuring that rules are properly enforced. This need has been identified also by the Letta and Draghi reports.
Participants in the session discussed the current challenges and opportunities in labour mobility and free movement of people, including social security coordination and recognition of skills and qualifications. This in view of the presentation of the Fair Labour Mobility Package by the Commission in 2026. This package will modernise, digitalise and simplify the rules and procedures, including by introducing a European Social Security Pass, strengthening the European Labour Authority and advancing on skills portability.
Concrete examples and real-life testimonies on the challenges and opportunities in cross-border EU labour mobility were provided by an adviser for mobile workers, a company representative, an adviser of a public employment service and a labour inspector. Key actors at European level: the European Trade Union Confederation, Business Europe and the European Labour Authority gave their reactions and insights.
The rich exchange that took place during this session will help shaping the Fair labour mobility package to address the current and future needs of mobile workers, businesses and public authorities.
