Priorities of the Presidency of the Council on social rights and employment

In this intervention, Marinos Moushouttas, Minister of Labour and Social Insurance of Cyprus, presented the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council in the area of social rights and employment. 

Minister Moushouttas emphasised that social policy remains a key pillar of European social justice. Ensuring fairness in the labour market, he said, means promoting quality jobs, adequate wages, safe working conditions and equal opportunities for all workers. 

He also highlighted the importance of continuous reskilling and upskilling, enabling workers to adapt to changing labour markets. As technological developments accelerate, including the growing impact of artificial intelligence on work, strengthening skills policies will be essential. 

Minister Moushouttas underlined that the Presidency will work to advance discussions on employment and social rights at EU level, supporting policies that help workers adapt to change while maintaining strong social protections.
