Biography
Professor Ingrid Robeyns is an economist and philosopher, and holds the Chair in Ethics of Institutions at Utrecht University. She is also affiliated to the Center for Analysis of Social Exclusion (CASE) at the London School of Economics (LSE).
She developed the ethical theory called ‘limitarianism’, which holds that wealth inequality should be limited by restricting how much personal wealth each person can hold. Her book Limitarianism: The Case Against Extreme Wealth was published by Allen Lane in 2024, and has been or will be translated in 11 other languages.
Relatedly, she is a member of the steering committee of the Extreme Wealth Line project, which aims to develop an extreme wealth line as the symmetrical opposite of the extreme poverty line. This project is a collaboration of the LSE, The New Economics Foundation, Oxfam International, and the International Patriotic Millionaires. See https://extremewealthline.com/
Since 2023, she is the PI of the ‘Visions for the Future’ project at Utrecht University, which studies the normative assumptions of various socio-economic systems that are alternatives to neoliberal capitalism. See https://visions-for-the-future.sites.uu.nl/
