Biography
Since 2020, Mikael Leyi is the Secretary General of SOLIDAR, a European network of more than 50 progressive civil society organisations from 26 countries in Europe and beyond, working to advance social justice through a just transition in Europe and worldwide. Mr Leyi also serves as the current President of Social Platform and as Board Member of CONCORD, he is a frequent speaker, moderator, and interlocutor at European Economic and Social Committee, European Parliament, and European Commission events.
A Political Scientist and Philologist, with degrees from Stockholm and Uppsala Universities, he has more than 18 years of experience from working with development cooperation, civil society and support for just transition, social rights and democracy in Latin America, Southern Africa, Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe in various leadership roles. In his current capacity, among other things, he initiated the European Alliance for a Just Transition, a network led by SOLIDAR that gathers more than 40 European level organisations and political families under a common vision to broaden, deepen and accelerate Europe’s transformative agenda.
