Biography
Mike Savage was Founding Co-Director of the LSE’s International Inequalities Institute, one of the globe’s premier interdisciplinary centres focusing on the global challenges posed by inequality. He is a sociologist whose work demonstrates the resurgence of class inequalities in the context of intense wealth inequalities. His work with the BBC on the Great British Class Survey in 2013, attracted huge media interest in the UK (where 9 million people conducted an online quiz to explore their class position) and globally. In 2016, he was Founding Director of the Atlantic Fellows Programme in Social and Economic Equity, a dedicated fellowship programme for activists, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners committed to using collective leadership to work towards social and economic justice for all. Recently, he has been active in the World Elite Database project, a consortium of sociologists in 22 nations (so far) who are developing the most scientific comparative analysis of individuals who hold pre-eminent power across the globe.
