MoveS webinar: Fundamental rights charter in relation to free movement of workers and social security coordination

This webinar explored the role of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights in shaping key aspects of EU law and case law, related to social security coordination and free movement of workers. It started with a short introduction to the Charter itself and its relevance in the EU legal order. The first main intervention focused on the Charter in relation to the coordination of social security, addressing the right to social security, the European Pillar of Social Rights, and the Ter Hulpe Declaration. It illustrated this framework through case law examples on minimum protection for EU citizens, rights of third-country nationals, and the impact of fragmented careers under Regulation 883/2004. The second main intervention examined the Charter’s relation to the freedom of movement of workers, outlining relevant provisions and assessing the extent of their influence in CJEU jurisprudence, with updates from recent developments.
