Tomorrow the European Year of Skills Festival will be attended by:
- President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen
- Executive Vice-President for a Europe Fit for the Digital Age, Margrethe Vestager
- Vice-President for Promoting our European Way of Life, Margaritis Schinas
- Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit
The festival will celebrate the European Year of Skills, putting skills and training centre stage. There will be conversations across Europe about the skills needed for the green and digital transitions, as well as on matching people’s aspirations with opportunities on the job market, attracting talent and working together for skills. It is a central part of the many activities organised across Europe to mark Europe Day and enable people to discover and experience the EU.
The festival will connect to other skills-related events taking place in Greece, Belgium, Spain, Latvia, Slovenia, Portugal, Luxembourg, and in many more places across the EU. It will showcase EU-funded projects – for instance through the European Social Fund Plus – that are focused on training people and helping them develop their skills.
It will also feature interviews with people across Europe who have learned new skills that helped boost their careers, as well as with companies that have invested in green and digital skills training courses for their employees.
In addition, as part of the festival, a new large-scale partnership in the energy-intensive industries sector under the Pact for Skills will be launched.
The festival will be livestreamed on the Commission’s YouTube channel on 9 May, between 14:00-15:30 CET.
