EQAVET PLA: The role of quality assurance in advancing basic skills in VET

This year’s EQAVET Peer Learning Activity (PLA) took place online on 4-5 November and addressed the role of quality assurance in advancing basic skills in VET. Around 60 participants attended the EQAVET PLA, representing 24 EU and non-EU countries. 

Over two half days, the PLA event offered participants from the EQAVET Network and a range of stakeholders (national authorities, VET providers, thematic experts, etc.) the opportunity to learn from thematic updates and country examples, as well as discussions in smaller groups. 

Representatives from Estonia, Austria, France, and Germany presented country-level examples showcasing how basic skills are integrated into their VET system, along with the current state of play and how these initiatives are quality assured. 

The group discussions on the first day addressed the state of play for basic skills provision in VET (including current challenges), and shared lessons learnt for effective national practices. On the second day, the focus shifted to how the quality assurance of basic skills can be strengthened and the role the EQAVET reference framework could play in fostering basic skills in VET.
