Why it matters?

The European Union needs effective upskilling, reskilling and a strong culture of lifelong learning to meet economic, social, green and digital changes.

  • EU’s working-age population will shrink in 42.8 million people by 2070.
  • 75% of EU employers have difficulties in finding workers with the right skills, whilst one in three workers have skills that do not correspond to their current tasks.
  • 90% of jobs in the EU will require at least basic digital skills in the coming years, whilst almost half of adults in the EU still lack basic digital competences.

In a fast-evolving world, skills and training help people adapt, grow and succeed, while keeping the EU strong, competitive and inclusive. The Union of Skills is supporting European VET systems and apprenticeships to be up to the challenges.

By connecting policy, practice, data and analysis, the European Skills & VET Week will help shape the workforce of tomorrow.
