Greece is looking at introducing micro-credentials in CVET

Greece’s National Organisation for the Certification of Qualifications and Vocational Guidance (EOPPEP), the EQAVET Greek National Reference Point, hosted a peer review on 25-26 June 2026 in Athens focusing on the link between micro-credentials and continuing vocational education and training (CVET).

The Greek training system wants to be able to respond more quickly to newly emerging needs in the labour market, and provide timely opportunities to employers who wish to support the upskilling and reskilling of their staff.

The main objective of the peer review was to discuss the proposal developed by the host country following extensive consultations, notably with stakeholders, VET providers and employers, on the possibility to introduce micro-credentials in CVET. EOPPEP developed four scenarios for the implementation of micro-credentials which could be complementary or exclusive.

Peers were invited to discuss the feasibility of the scenarios, the challenges they would raise, as well as motivations and drawbacks for each scenario. They also reflected on how to build trust for micro-credentials in the CVET system and quality assurance measures.

This peer review offered an opportunity to engage with experienced experts from other countries and discuss the initiative. If introduced, micro-credentials would supplement the existing provision for adult education, lifelong learning and other forms of continuing VET. The initiative does not intend to replace the current arrangements for CVET provision but to build on the established national arrangements and practice.
