Hungary hosts the EQAVET peer review on graduate tracking for initial VET

The Hungarian National Office for Vocational Education and Training and Adult Learning (NOVETAL) hosted the EQAVET online peer review on VET graduate tracking on 26 and 27 March 2025. The Peer Review gathered the Hungarian Ministry of Culture and Innovation, VET institutions, industry representatives, and EQAVET Network members to discuss the Hungarian graduate tracking system, quality assurance, and the impact on VET provision. Six EQAVET Network members from Austria, the Czech Republic, Finland, the Netherlands, and Slovakia participated as peers, and the host presented the Hungarian graduate tracking system for initial VET. In particular, the focus of the Peer Review was on the connections between graduate tracking, improving the quality of VET provision and support for learners to move from school to the labour market.

The hosts introduced Hungary’s graduate tracking system, established by NOVETAL in 2021, which tracks graduates for nine years using administrative data and learner/graduate surveys. The system provides information on learners, their training, educational success, transition to higher education and the labour market, and the situation of job seekers. The survey section collects information on learners' expectations, plans, and career goals, with varying response rates across VET centres.

The peer review allowed participants to reflect on the graduate tracking system and its connections to quality assurance. Peer discussions covered the challenges associated with individual tracking of learners’ career paths, effective graduate tracking system development, and using graduate tracking as a focus of policy making. Other key topics during the discussions included the collection of data, quality assurance of data, and the connection to labour market forecasting.
