The 2025 Annual Report of the Social Protection Committee reports a general improvement in 2024 in the social situation in the EU, with a reduction of just over 1 million in the number of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion and of 0.5 million for children.

The European Commission launched the process to seek views on the upcoming EU Anti-Poverty Strategy, the first of its kind at EU level. The strategy will aim to provide essential protection to people and tackle the root causes of poverty.

The European Commission has launched a public consultation and a call for evidence on the new Action Plan to implement the European Pillar of Social Rights. They ask citizens and stakeholders for their views on the impact of the 2021 Action Plan and any lessons learned.

The European Employment and Social Rights Forum took place on 16-17 November in Brussels. This first edition of the event focused on how to achieve a fair and inclusive green transition for all. The Forum also celebrated the 5th anniversary of the European Pillar of Social Rights.

Five years after the proclamation of the European Pillar of Social Rights at the Gothenburg Summit in 2017, the Commission has put forward more than 130 initiatives to implement the Pillar and deliver a social Europe that is fair, inclusive and full of opportunities.
