Nicolas Schmit, Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, visited the Youthreach Clondakin centre near Dublin. Co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF), the center has a long standing reputation for helping young people aged 15-20 who left school early to bounce back – and take their first successful steps toward employment. The success of Youthreach scheme, and its outreach to 14 000 young people during the ESF (2014-2020) operating period, will be continued through funding from the new ESF+ (2021-2027).

The “Pentru Tine - För Dig” (For you) project - supported by the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived - gives marginalized people vital information and support they need to find their way out from material deprivation and social isolation. With the involvement of the local City Missions, “Pentru Tine/För Dig” reached out to 1 600 people across the four Swedish cities of Stockholm, Uppsala, Linköping, and Eskilstuna.

The Commission is interested in hearing the opinions of former and current trainees, as well as young people who might be interested in taking a traineeship in the future. The survey has been exceptionally extended and will be open until 25 March 2022.
In its latest episode Euronews Real Economy magazine travels to Spain, a country that has seen the number of persons with disabilities in the job market rise by more than 20 percent over the past six years. The episode shows how in 2021 the ONCE Foundation’s 'Digital Talent' programme, funded by the European Social Fund, allowed 5000 young people with disabilities to learn new skills.

Today, the Commission presents its Communication on Decent Work Worldwide that reaffirms the EU’s commitment to champion decent work both at home and around the world. The elimination of child labour and forced labour is at the heart of this endeavour.

The Sixth High-Level Meeting of the European Battery Alliance took place in Brussels to discuss the progress in developing the battery value chain in Europe and to address the most pressing challenges on the way forward. The Commission also presented priority areas for the work of the European Battery Alliance in 2022.

Supported by the Commission, the agricultural and food industry has presented a skills partnership under the EU Pact for Skills.
