Food and drink industry - Sectoral social dialogue

Social dialogue in the Food and Drink industry covers activities related to NACE (Rev.2) codes 10 and 11, which covers:

  • manufacture of food products (including the processing and preserving processes),
  • manufacture of beverages (including distillation, rectification and the blending processes).

The sectoral social dialogue committee has been created in 2012. In 2021, the food and drink sector employed 4,5 million people in nearly 290,000 companies, accounting for around 2.4% of the total EU workforce (Eurofound Representativeness study, 2022).

The sector faces the following main challenge:

  • global crisis and disruptions in the supply chain and exports markets
  • adapting to the green and digital transition
  • the labour and skills shortages.
