Social partners

Social dialogue in this sector covers activities defined by NACE (Rev. 2) code 80.1 and 80.2:

  • private security services
  • security systems activities

In the EU, the private security sector employs some 2.2 million people (1.1 % of the EU workforce).

The sector is growing due to increased outsourcing of security services by public authorities and large corporations.

There is also more demand for security services at sea and airports, and from private clients.

However, cash-in-transit activities (where workers transport banknotes, coins, credit cards, etc. in vehicles or on foot) are declining as a result of the rise in electronic transactions and the introduction of the euro.
