With over 14m workers (Eurostat, 2014 Labour Force Survey data) in over 3m firms (Eurostat, 2013 Business Statistics), the construction sector is the EU's biggest industrial employer. The challenges it faces include:
- the fact that firms andtheir workers have to move to the location where the product is built
- seasonal and variable demand
- demographic change
- technological change
- the greening of the economy.
