Social partners
The Insurance Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee was formally set up in 1999, although the social partners had been working together in an informal working party since 1987.
This sector covers the following activities, which fall under NACE (Rev. 2) code 65:
- insurance (life & non-life)
- reinsurance
- pension funding, except compulsory social security.
In the EU, the insurance sector employs around 1.8 m people (Eurostat, 2014 Labour Force Survey data).
Major challenges include
- the changing legislative framework as a result of the financial crisis,
- the transformation of the sector characterised by a high number of mergers and acquisitions,
- the changing requirements for skills, as resulting inter alia through the digitalisation of the economy and society.
