Sweden’s Social Climate Plan was the first plan to get the green light from the Commission under the new Social Climate Fund.
The Swedish Plan supports citizens who are most affected by rising transport costs and struggle to access clean sustainable transport.
Funding
- The total budget of the Swedish Plan amounts to €532.8 million
- The EU contributes €399.6 million from the Social Climate Fund
- Sweden covers the remaining share of the funding
Who benefits from the plan?
- The Swedish Plan benefits citizens with low and lower-middle incomes
- Around 115 500 vulnerable households living in rural areas with limited public transport will receive support

What measures does it fund?
- Vulnerable households will be eligible for monthly support of up to SEK 1 300 (around €120) to buy or lease an electric car
- Over three years, total support per household can reach SEK 46 800 (around €4 320) rising to SEK 64 800 (around €6 000) for households experiencing transport poverty
- These measures will reduce transport poverty by making electric cars more accessible in Sweden
