Gender stereotypes - including the perception that women are inherently nurturing and men are naturally analytical - continue to shape educational and career pathways. In vocational education and training (VET) and apprenticeship programmes, these biases contribute to the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields and industries such as construction, agriculture, and manufacturing, while men remain less prevalent in education, health, social care, and service sectors.
Such imbalances not only limit career opportunities but also reduce diversity, innovation, and competitiveness, and perpetuate social inequalities.
This webinar will bring together experts, civil society organisations, industry representatives, stakeholders, and European Commission officials to discuss effective strategies and share real-life examples of inclusive apprenticeships. Participants will explore how apprenticeships can help break gender stereotypes, promote diversity, and create equitable learning and working environments.
Key topics include:
- The current landscape and trends in gender stereotypes in apprenticeships, including recent EU and national initiatives.
- Case studies of women in STEM apprenticeships: challenges faced, and successes achieved.
- Good practices from EAfA members and national or regional initiatives promoting inclusion.

EAfA Community on Social Inclusion and Gender Equality
The European Alliance for Apprenticeships (EAfA) Communities are thematic groups that foster collaboration among members with shared priorities. Their purpose is to provide a platform for exchanging experiences, identifying challenges, and developing practical solutions to enhance the quality and accessibility of apprenticeships across Europe.
The Community on Social Inclusion and Gender Equality, led by Fundació Catalana de l’Esplai and IDEC.SA, promotes equal access to apprenticeships, with a particular emphasis on gender balance and the inclusion of underrepresented groups.
In June 2025, the five EAfA Communities launched a call for best practices, with part of its aim being to identify inclusive apprenticeship models, especially those supporting women in STEM disciplines.
