Spain hosted the first pilot EQAVET Peer Review

Members of the EQAVET Network took part in the first pilot EQAVET Peer Review organised by Spain on ‘A Quality EQAVET Model for Spain (QEMS)’.

The first pilot EQAVET Peer Review was virtually hosted by the General Secretariat of Vocational Training at the Spanish Ministry for Education and Vocational Training, on 30-31 March.

During the Peer Review, EQAVET Network members from Austria, Belgium-Flanders, Greece, Italy and Portugal acted as peers.

Spain recently introduced reforms in vocational education and training (VET). In January 2020, VET competences were unified under one sole ministry. In March 2022, the national parliament adopted a new Vocational Training Law to define the VET system as a unique articulated and compact system.

The Spanish hosts presented their plans for a national quality model for VET, based on EQAVET, to implement the VET reforms in Spain. Peer reviewers had the opportunity to analyse the Quality EQAVET Model for Spain (QEMS) and reflect on possible improvements and ways to ensure its effectiveness. Discussions focused on the quality model, the quality evaluation system and the indicators for monitoring and self-assessment.
