#UnionOfEquality lies at the heart of the EU.
Last year, the European Commission published the Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities for 2021-2030. Based on the UN Convention for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, it aims to break down barriers and make sure persons with disabilities enjoy equal rights and opportunities in all areas of life. The European Disability Card, for instance, makes it easier for persons with disabilities to access services when they travel or move to another country in the European Union, mainly in culture, leisure, sport and transport. Based on the successful pilot project, we will propose a card for the whole of the EU.
Together for rights: we must all work to make life more just and inclusive for all persons with disabilities.

All Europeans, including persons with disabilities, should have equal access to inclusive and quality education. No one should be treated unfairly in the workplace. Still, too many persons with disabilities are unemployed. We will present an employment package to help persons with disabilities thrive in the job market.

Together for independent living

Together for independent living.
No matter one's disabilities, we all have the right to choose our home and the people we live with. But still, this is not the case for everyone. Some persons with disabilities live in institutions far away from their community and cannot make their own choices. Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has also created more difficulties for persons who live in these specialised institutions. The EU will work with EU countries to ensure that persons with disabilities get the proper support to live independently, participate in their community, and make their own choices in life.

No matter one's disabilities, we all have the right to choose how, where and with whom we live. Some persons with disabilities live in care centres that are far away from their loved ones. These individuals are not always free to make their own decisions. Recently, the pandemic has also created more difficulties for persons who live in these centres. The EU will work with EU countries to ensure that persons with disabilities get the proper support to live independently, participate in their community, and make their own choices in life.

Citizens should have the opportunity to vote or participate in elections. There is still work to be done to make political participation a reality for all, especially for persons with disabilities. It is very important that everyone in the EU should be able to take part in democratic life.

Sport, culture, tourism: they broaden our horizons, are essential for a healthy work-life balance and help us reach our true potential. But many persons with disabilities are locked out of this life, often because services are unsuitable or facilities inaccessible.
The EU will continue to help make these activities more accessible to persons with disabilities in the coming years.
