Council takes action to strengthen social dialogue in the EU

The Council of the European Union adopted the Council Recommendation on strengthening social dialogue in the EU on 12 June 2023.

This recommendation is a remarkable achievement in the field of social dialogue. The Recommendation will support the Member States in implementing Principle 8 of the European Pillar of Social Rights by providing guidance on reinforcing social dialogue and collective bargaining at national level, including:

• by making sure that social dialogue frameworks are fit for the future
• better involvement of social partners in policy design
• promoting the benefits of social dialogue
• capacity building for social partner organisations

It will also be relevant for the accession negotiations with candidate countries.
